About Gary Toback and the Torah Project

Day 2-922.jpg

Last year our community suffered a huge loss with the tragic passing of Dr. Gary Toback. Gary was a loving husband to Phyllis for more than 50 years, a father to David, Alison and Jonathan, and a proud grandfather.

Gary, a caring physician and prolific scientist was deep, always present, a friend forever, with a good word for all. He treated everyone with respect and was a compassionate doctor as well as a baseball aficionado.

In the last 20+ years of his life, Gary took a deep interest in Torah study in general and Jewish mysticism in particular. Inspired, he and Phyllis would attend the weekly class at the Rohr Chabad House, in addition to studying at home and elsewhere.

It is truly a privilege that Phyllis and her children have chosen to dedicate a new Torah to Chabad House to honor Gary’s life and perpetuate his legacy.

For Chabad House this will be the first Torah to call their own, and will join the one currently on loan. For the community, this is an opportunity to honor Gary’s memory and celebrate the Torah that is our heritage and that inspired him so deeply.

You have a wonderful opportunity to take part in this special project by purchasing a book, parsha (portion), word or letter in the Torah.

Your gift will be rewarded with a beautiful certificate for you honoring your participation in the new Torah. Gifts of $500 and above will be engraved on the special commemoration plaque that will hang in Chabad House.
